In the past year my daughter got a verruca on a toe (occupational hazard of gymnastics!) and my son got a wart on his hand.
If you’d like to understand more about what warts are, how they happen, and if they can spread, read this article from Wellness Mama. I’m not here to give you the ins and outs of what they are, but how to treat them naturally.
The only thing I needed to know about “what they are” is that they are viral. I needed to know this because without knowing the root cause of any health problem, you cannot effectively treat it. In knowing both the wart and the verruca were viral, I got to work in finding the best natural anti-viral treatments I had at home.
It would never even occur to me to go to the doctor, or even a pharmacy, for something like this, because I’ve learnt throughout the years that nature truly is the greatest pharmacy.
I’ve also built up my home wellness toolkit to the point where I have most remedies I need already at home.
I use homeopathy and essential oils daily, and knew instantly which ones to use for this, based on their properties.
My daughter’s verruca was there a while until I realised it was a verruca – months even. As soon as I did, I made a poultice for it, and it was gone within 3 weeks.
For my son, it took a little longer as he didn’t want his hand wrapped after I put the treatment on, so I’m not sure how much of it sunk in, but it still worked within a month. It worked regardless because the doTERRA essential oils I use are so potent that even a touch of it on a finger will allow the properties of that oil to start working, and because homeopathy heals from the root cause.
Because I used different treatments for both, I’ll list them both separately below. Either will work for both options, though verrucas respond more to the oils and garlic, where hand warts seem to need the homeopathy more. I didn’t use the homeopathic remedy for the verruca at all.
Natural Treatment for Verrucas
In a small glass container or jar that has a lid, add:
- Around 5 tbsp avocado oil (high in vitamin E to support skin)
- 1 garlic clove, crushed
- 5 drops tea tree oil
- 5 drops frankincesnse
- 2 drops oregano
Mix well.
Apply generously every morning and evening, making sure to mix a little with a clean finger in order to get the garlic bits from the bottom, then cover with a sock. You’ll need to make a new batch each week before the garlic goes bad.
The verruca will start opening and look like it’s “coming out”. Some people like to start pulling it out when it starts doing this. It hurt my daughter too much so we left it to do its thing and within a few weeks it disappeared.
Natural Treatment for Hand Warts
- First thing’s first – homeopathic Thuja. This is the indicated remedy for warts generally, and it rarely doesn’t work. It also works wonders for molluscums. Call up a homeopathic pharmacy and order Thuja 30c and give one a day.
- Buy a Thuja cream and apply this in the morning.
- In the evening, add to your (clean) hand a drop of apple cider vinegar, a small bit of coconut oil, then a drop (or even just a touch by putting your finger over the opening of the oil bottle and tipping it upside down so the oil hits your fingertip) each of oregano, tea tree and frankincense. Mix with your finger and apply to the wart. If the person in question will wear a glove or a bandage, do this to keep the oils in.
Additional tips and extras:
- Cod liver oil always speeds this process up and in my opinion, we should all be taking it anyway, especially kids.
- Make sure to show children how to wash their hands properly, and how to dry feet properly after a bath or shower.
- If the person who has the wart is happy to eat garlic, this will also speed up the process. Roast a whole bulb for 20 mins or so and sprinkle with sea salt.
With love & health,
