Natural Lice Treatment Using Essential Oils

I had big plans while the kids were at school this morning to have a rare grooming and self-care morning ahead of our niece’s bat mitzvah weekend, but then my son reminded me I was a parent by getting lice and I’ve spent the morning treating, combing, washing, blowdrying and dealing with an inordinate amount moaning.

I tried to tell him how lucky he was, how the stuff we used to have slathered onto our heads in the 90s left you blind and with zero lung capacity. Nope. Apparently I don’t get how annoying the comb is.

I treated twice – last night and this morning – with my homemade essential oil blend, and I’m happy to say it killed them all, and alongside the trusty Nitty Gritty nit comb, I think we got all the lil suckers! Everything came out dead and I’ve combed until my arm fell off to remove all the eggs.

Here’s what I did:

– Fractionated coconut oil (you an use almond or jojoba oil too)

– Tea tree 25 drops

– Eucalyptus 15 drops

– Lavender 15 drops

– Add all to a little jar

– Add as much as possible to dry hair, adding a few extra drops of tea tree at the end and rubbing in thoroughly. Leave on for an hour or 2, under a shower cap (wish he’d let me take a pic of him looking like a washer woman but he said he looked too much like Nanna so refused 🤣)

– Wash hair thoroughly and comb through while conditioner is on, getting as many out as possible

– Rough dry hair, then add treatment once more, put the cap back on and sleep with it in

– Comb out in the morning

– Wash thoroughly then comb through again – at this point they were all dead and gone

– I’ll continue to do this weekly and to use my lice prevention spray (reel about this on my IG reels)

Yes, you can get the conventional stuff, put it on once, and it will probably work. I like a hard life so I do this to myself 😂 but really, I’d rather put in the extra effort and know I’m using all natural products on my kids. Tea tree is especially known to suffocate lice, and the combination of the 3 helps kill the eggs too.

I’m not usually one for violence, but when it comes to worms and lice, happy killing people 💪🏽
