Apple & Cinnamon Granola – Only 4 Ingredients

September 19, 2017 by theorganicspoon Leave a Comment

It’s Autumn! The time of year for boots, fluffy cardigans, cosy nights in, warming drinks, comfort food and amazing, warming flavours like cinnamon and star anise. Apples are in abundance right now as well, so make sure to pick them off trees when you see them.

You all know I love to make my own granola as it’s so easy and much cheaper; one of my favourites is my very easy classic maple and pecan granola, as well as my fig and ginger granola, which is also delicious! But I thought I’d try apple and cinnamon now to compliment the flavours of the season and because it’s Rosh Hashana tomorrow (Jewish New Year) where we use a lot of apple, honey and maple flavours for sweetness.

I eat this with either chilled almond milk or Nush / Rebel Kitchen almond milk yoghurts.

This recipe uses only 4 simple ingredients and is gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free, egg free and soy free. I buy my oats in bulk from Buy Wholefoods Online which you can even get on Amazon. I buy about 2.5 kilos at a time to keep me going.

Honestly, it’s so easy to make and so much healthier than store bought, give it a go!

Ingredients

1/2 kilo organic rolled oats
3 tbsp applesauce (store-bought or homemade. To make simply stew apples until soft then blend)
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 tsp ground cinnamon

Method

Preheat the oven to 180* and line 2 oven trays with baking paper.

Put all the ingredients in a large bowl and mix very well until all the oats are covered in the sauces and spice.

Spread evenly onto the 2 trays and put in the oven.

Bake for 10 minutes then mix it about with a wooden spoon so it doesn’t stick then bake for another 10 minutes.

It should be a golden colour but don’t let it brown too much as it burns quite quickly. You may have to experiment with times as all ovens vary but around the 20/25 minute mark should do it.

Store in a glass jar or airtight container for up to 3 months.

Love & health,
Lauren
